National Walking Month

Living Streets, the national charity that stands up for pedestrians and works to create safe, attractive and enjoyable streets, have launched Walk to School Week.

Running between today and Friday 20th, the initiative is part of May's National Walking Month, to encourage people to leave the car at home and walk whenever possible.

The Living Streets website is full of ideas for children, parents and teachers to get involved, through organising walk together pools and classroom activities, including road safety exercises and advice on the health benefits of trying to walk once a week.

While many of us may find the Northern Irish weather doesn't always provide the best conditions for getting out and walking, especially if you're in rush to get the kids to school, why not think about putting aside one day a week dedicated to walking when you'd otherwise drive or take the bus. You never know you, and the kids, might just enjoy it.
